Jared Leto first received national attention for his role as Jordan Catalano in the TV series, My So-Called Life.

That was twenty years ago.

Since then, Leto has appeared in films like Fight Club, Prefontaine, The Thin Red Line, American Psycho, and Requiem for a Dream.

He is also the front-man for Thirty Seconds to Mars, a band he started with his older brother, Shannon, in 1998.  That's been a big chunk of Leto's focus for the past 15 years.

After five years away from acting, Leto appeared in the 2013 film, Dallas Buyers Club.  He portrayed Rayon, a transgender person battling AIDS.  On Sunday night, he won the Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role.

His acceptance speech was touching, specifically the part about his mother.  Watch it below.
