Six Teenagers Running For Governor In Kansas Due To Loophole

Six teenagers, some who are not even old enough to vote, are running for governor in Kansas because it is one of only three states that do not have an age requirement to run for the highest office in the state. According to CNN, Kansas lawmakers are working on a bill to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

Lawmakers say the new bill "states that candidates running for any government office in Kansas should be at least 18 years old and be a resident of the state for at least four consecutive years." The proposed bill would not take effect until January 1, 2019, which means the six teenagers will be able to run in the upcoming election.

Jack Bergeson, brought light to the issue when he announced he planned to seek the office of governor as a Democrat back in August when he was just 16, according to the Kansas City Star. Since he announced his candidacy, five other teenagers decided to run as well, ranging in age from 16 to 18.
