Suspect In Custody After Shooting At Indiana Middle School

Two people are in critical condition after a male student opened fire at Noblesville West Middle School in Indiana. A student and a teacher were wounded before the suspect was taken into custody. 

The attack began around 9 a.m. local time according to police Chief Kevin Jowitt. Investigators believe the boy acted alone, but did not release any other details about the suspect. 

Indiana State Police Department PIO Sgt. John Perrine tweeted that the two victims had been transported to the hospital and their families had been notified.

WISH-TV reports that the two victims were an adult and a 13-year-old female. Police do not believe there are any additional suspects at this time. 

Gov. Eric Holcomb issued a statement on Twitter Friday, saying that he and other state leaders were being updated on the situation and at least 100 state police officers had been made available to local law enforcement to assist with the investigation.

Noblesville Middle School was immediately placed on lockdown when the shooting was reported. Students were taken to Noblesville High School where parents can pick them up. 

The attack comes one week following another shooting at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas that killed eight students and two teachers.
