The reports continue to say that there will be record-breaking flooding of the Arkansas River in the River Valley area. Fort Smith Mayor McGill sent out a special video message asking area residents to be very cautious and to stay away from the flood areas as the waters rise quickly.
In this message, the Mayor encourages anyone who lives near to moving or rising water, please evacuate at this time to a safer location. Mayor McGill says that there will be police and emergency services moving through the area. Please be courteous and let them move through. Do not take down barriers or move barriers, and do not try to pass them, as they are there for the safety of the public.
"We're witnessing a record flood like we've never seen before...but just like we recovered from other record-breaking floods, we'll recover from this," says Mayor McGill.
